Dangers to Reenacting : New proposed rules on transporting and storage of blackpowder
Posted by Wayne_Fielder on 2007/7/7 15:30:00 (1163 reads)

UPDATE

Welcome HotAir visitors!

*************
OSHA has extended the comment period to September 10th. More time to get your comments in but don't put it off. Let them hear from you NOW!

*************

Our beloved government is doing it to us again. OSHA has on it's docket for this month a new ruling on the transportation and storage of blackpowder. Cutting to the chase, this new rule would make it all but impossible for shipping companies to deliver blackpowder and make it all but impossible for gunshops to sell blackpowder.

When I first got this I thought I smelled "Urban Legend" but you can look it up on OSHA's site. It took me about 10 minutes to dig it up and, lucky for you, I took notes. ;)

Go here: http://www.regulations.gov/

1) find the "Search Documents" section on the page
2) In "Step 1" Select documents accepting comments
3) In "Step 2" Select Occupation Safety and Health Administration
4) in "Step 3" Select Proposed Rules
5) in "Step 4" Select Document ID and paste the following in the box:
OSHA-2007-0032-0001

The second column from the right allows you to read the proposed rule in PDF or HTML formats. On the far right hand of the page you will see the "Comments" column. Click the yellow balloon looking thing to add your comments.

The NRA has been kind enough to supply a boilerplate letter that sums up everyone's position nicely I think. That letter can be found here:

But if you don't want to go there, you can view the letter by clicking "Read More" below.

Preservation Efforts : Breaking News! Battle at Gettysburg
Posted by Wayne_Fielder on 2007/7/4 16:40:00 (1057 reads)

Copied in it's entirety from the Rightwingnuthouse blog. Replaying the events of July 3, 1863 from a "blogger" perspective:

Washington is once again quiet this early morning but I don’t think it’s the result of people being sound asleep in their beds. First, there’s this God awful heat. For those of you who aren’t familiar with our climate here in Washington, imagine the worst mosquito infested swamp and then add oppressive, life draining heat. The mercury never fell below 85 degrees last night which made sleep impossible.

Found this on YouTube. The video was taken last year at the National by a spectator. The battle depicted Donelson's Assault and was fought at dawn.
